The ChamberArt Festival in Madrid, Spain (July 3rd-July 12th)
and Ameropa Festival in Prague, Czech Republic (July 14th-Aug 5th) are still accepting applications from student and amateur bassists. The bass faculty includes Dalibor Tkadlčík in Prague, and Alberto Pichardo and Fernando Calero in Madrid. Oklahoma City University Summer Bass Camp
The 14th Annual Oklahoma City University Summer Bass
Camp will take place from July 22-28, 2007. This is a
unique opportunity for those entering high school
(9-12) and college bass students. The week-long
program will offer intensive training for the serious
bass student. Every aspect of the bass and bass
playing will be discussed, including solos, ensemble,
jazz, orchestra, teaching, maintenance, vibrato, and
shifting. The camp will be led by Professor John
Schimek, who will be assisted by Kara Koehn, Gary
Keller, Cody Sisk, and students from Oklahoma City
University.

Perlman Music Program
The Perlman Music Program will be accepting double bass applicants through March 1st for the six-week summer session. Participants will focus on solo work while also playing chamber music and in an orchestra. Applicants should be precollege, ages 11-18. Strings International Music Festival
The Strings International Music Festival presents Music House, June 13-29, 2007. This 17-day music workshop/festival focuses on performance and practice techniques, chamber music audition and competition preparation, technique and pedagogy. The faculty is comprised of members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, including principal bass Hal Robinson, and other internationally known musicians. The 12th Annual Golden Gate Bass Camp at Holy Names University in Oakland, CA, will be held June 25 through July 1, 2007. The 7-day course is for bassists ages 11-22. The Ray Brown Memorial Jazz Course (all ages) will run Thursday afternoon, June 28th, and end Sunday afternoon, July 1st. The Adult Classical Course will begin Thursday afternoon, June 28th, and end Sunday afternoon, July 1st. Suzuki teacher-trainer Virginia Dixon will present Suzuki Bass Book 1 at the American Suzuki Institute at Stevens Point, Wisconsin, August 4-11, 2007. Prerequisites for the Book 1 course are: 1) a videotape audition of “The Elephant.” (See instructions at www.suzukiassociation.org), and; 2) the six-hour Suzuki philosophy course, “Every Child Can,” offered throughout the country all year long and in Stevens Point on July 29. Trainees who take the course on the 29th will be able to observe without charge during the following week of the institute. Depending on demand, Virginia Dixon will offer “Every Child Can” on August 3rd and/or a Suzuki Bass Book 3 course at her home studio in Elgin, Illinois. Festival Institute at Round Top
The 37th International Festival-Institute at Round Top, Texas, June 3 – July 15, 2007 for orchestra, chamber and solo study will feature bass faculty members James VanDemark and Barry Lieberman. Conductors include Pascal Verrot, Gregory Vajda, Michael Guttler, Emmanuel Leducq-Barome, Charles Olivieri-Munroe, Grant Llewellyn, Daniel Myssyk and Lawrence Isaacson. Repertoire will cover works by Tchaikovsky, Bartok, Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel, Penderecki and Bernstein. Participants (over 18 of age) are accepted after auditions and are granted a full scholarship. Chatauqua Festival
The 7-week program of double bass study at the annual Chautauqua Festival, Curtis Burris, director, focuses on technique, solo repertoire, chamber music and orchestral studies, including a mock audition and studio recital finale. Past guest faculty members have included John Hood, Peter Lloyd, Scott Haigh, Max Dimoff, Ali Yazdanfar and Ira Gold. Generous financial aid is available, and the festival setting, Western New York State, is a beautiful place for an intense and enriching summer study experience. Auditions for the 2007 Chautauqua Festival, June 24-August 13, will be held at various locations throughout the country in January and February.
