Once again, a team of intrepid ISB makers led by Paul Hart are going to try to Build a Bass in just one week — varnish and all! Drop by the Dillingham Theater Scene Shop to watch the work in progress, ask questions, and maybe even lend a hand. Raffle tickets will be for sale only to convention attendees at the convention registration desk, $50 for one and the price per ticket goes down the more tickets you buy. The name of the lucky winner will be drawn on Friday night, just before the first evening concert. Need not be present to win, but winner is responsible for shipping/transportation costs to get the bass back home! Special thanks to our 2017 Build-a-Bass sponsor Upton Bass String Instrument Co.
Once our judges complete their work on Monday, the competition opens up its doors to convention attendees for Audience Favorite Award voting on Tuesday, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Go to the Friends Green Room to see new basses made by luthiers from five countries, and vote for your favorite. Maker's Competition medal and certificate winners plus Audience Favorite awards will be announced along with solo competition winners beginning at 7:15 PM on Tuesday night before the evening's concerts in Ford Theater. On Wednesday, you'll be able to hear the competition basses played on the Hockett Family Recital Hall stage from 11 AM to 1 PM in our Maker's Competition Sound Off event.
One of the enjoyable ISB convention activities is the Noontime Jam, where bassists of all levels and backgrounds, especially those who don't earn their living laying the bass, can get together and read bass ensemble pieces from the ISB's Ensemble Library. Join us in the Hill Center, Room G 75 daily for hands-on technique building in a group setting, along with special guests. Our daily schedule will be announced on the Adult Learners page on ISBConnect.org.
