Every two years the International Society of Bassists sponsors the ISB Double Bass Competition, with divisions for solo, jazz and orchestral bassists age 19-30, and two divisions for younger bassists. The competition is held in conjunction with the ISB's biennial convention. See the Performance Competitions page for more information.
Also held in conjunction with the ISB convention is the ISB Makers Competition, where new instruments from around the world are evaluated by both workmanship and tone judges. For more information, see the Makers Competition page.
The ISB also sponsors the biennial David Walters/ISB Composition Competition, with grand prizes in three divisions: solo, chamber and bass with media. Winning compositions often receive their world premieres at the ISB convention. For more information on the Composition Competition, see the Composition Competition page.
The ISB is calling for previously unpublished papers reflecting a high quality of scholarship in a wide variety of disciplines relevant to the double bass. For more information on the Research Competition, see the Research Competition page.
