Bio:

George Speed is Associate Professor of Bass at Florida State University and an artist faculty member of the Brevard Music Center. Principal Bass of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic from 2005-2019, Mr. Speed has also performed with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Boston Symphony and Dallas Symphony. He has recorded two solo albums for Centaur Records: Vivaldi Cello Sonatas (2018) and Bass Favorites and Transcriptions from the 18th Century (2023). A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Mr. Speed earned degrees from Vanderbilt University and Boston University.

Rodney Jordan
Coordinator of Jazz and Commercial Music at Florida State University is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up playing the bass in church and with his high school orchestra. Jordan received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi where he studied music with Dr. London Branch, Alvin Fielder, and Andy Hardwick at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. During his college years, Jordan joined the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra where he served as Assistant Principal Bassist. After graduating, he became Chair of the String Department at the Dougherty County Public School and served as Principal Bassist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra in Albany, GA. Teaching has always been an important part of Mr. Jordan’s life and career. In addition to teaching strings in Dougherty County, he also taught in the DeKalb County School Systems.
