Susan Cahill holds the position of Associate Professor of Double Bass at the University of Colorado Boulder. Known for her dynamic performances and profound musicality, Susan has been a member of the Colorado Symphony since 1997.

Before joining the Colorado Symphony, Susan served on the faculty at the University of Denver and was the principal bassist of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans. Her extensive experience also includes teaching at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival and participating in prestigious events such as the Grand Tetons Music Festival, Festical Mozaic and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

In her new role at the University of Colorado Boulder, Susan succeeds the recently retired Professor Paul Erhard. Her appointment is seen as a significant addition to the College of Music, where she is known for her innovative teaching methods and her dedication to developing bass repertoire, furthering her influence in the bass community.

Susan’s passion for music extends beyond performance and education; she has appeared on the PBS Masterworks series “Now Hear This” and collaborates with improvisational actor Jon Wilkerson to create engaging works that have garnered significant attention on YouTube. She performs on basses by Nick Lloyd and Guiseppe Santori.
