Kieran J. Hanlon is Associate Professor of Bass and Jazz at The State University of New York at Fredonia. He is also Section Bass with the Chautauqua Symphony (acting Assistant Principal Summer 2024) and Principal Bass of the Erie Philharmonic. In addition to his engagements as a classical bassist, Kieran is a first call Jazz bassist, and is a regular member of house bands with world-stage guests for engagements at Fredonia and in the surrounding area. As a guest clinician, Kieran has presented masterclasses and workshops at Oberlin Conservatory, San Diego State University, The Frost School of Music at The University of Miami, The University of Houston, Southern Methodist University, Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, The Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Duquesne University, The Eastman School of Music, The University of Colorado at Boulder and Colorado State University
Kieran holds both a M.M. in Double Bass Performance and Literature degree and an Orchestral Studies Diploma from the Eastman School of Music where he studied with James Van Demark. He also holds a B.M. in Double Bass Performance and a B.F.A. in Jazz Studies - Bass from the University of Michigan, where he studied with Diana Gannett, Stephen Molina and Robert Hurst.
