Kevin Brown has served as the Principal Bass of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra since 2014, and has been on faculty at Michigan State University since 2017.
Originally from Minnesota, Kevin began playing the the bass at age three. He holds his Bachelor and Masters degrees from Rice University where he studied with renowned pedagogue Paul Ellison. Other primary teachers include Peter Lloyd, Tim Pitts and David Allen Moore.
Outside of the orchestra, Kevin is also an active soloist and chamber musician. He performs regularly with Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, and has performed recitals at the Pittsburgh Double Bass Symposium and past ISB Conventions, as well as local venues in Michigan. Mr. Brown made his concerto debut with the DSO performing Vanhal in 2015.
