John Schimek is Professor of Double Bass and String Education for the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. An ISB Life Member, he is currently serving on the ISB Board as the immediate past-President and has been the co-convention chair for the 2007 and 2019 ISB Conventions. Along with regularly presenting at ISB and ASTA conventions, he has presented clinics in 42 states, as well as China, South America, and Europe. His students are leading educators and performers throughout the world. HIs published material may be found in Bass World, Teaching Music, American String Teacher Journal, several state music education journals and he is a contributing author in the textbook Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra. Schimek is the recipient of several awards including the Oklahoma City University Outstanding Music Faculty Award, Oklahoma-ASTA Teacher of the Year, and has twice been recognized by the Oklahoma legislature. Besides everything bass, he enjoys orchestral conducting and has conducted more than 100 All-City, All-Region, and All-State honor orchestra performances.
