Bio:

Sonia Ray is titular professor of double bass at
the Federal University of Goiás (Goiânia, Brazil). She holds an undergraduate
degree in Conducting and Composition by State University of São Paulo (BRA),
Masters and Doctoral Degrees by University of Iowa (EUA) both in Double Bass
Performance and Pedagogy under Dr. Gannett. Ray performs regularly in Brazil
and abroad taking both Brazilian and contemporary repertoire as a priority.
Guest artist of International Society of Bassists since 1993, she received fellowships
for research projects on double bass performance and pedagogy from Brazilian
Government in 2008 (University of North Texas) and in 2016 (Universitè Paris 8
and NSCMDP, France - 2016-2017). Ray is co-founding member of several music
societies in Brazil, particularly the Brazilian Society of Music Performance
(ABRAPEM) and the Brazilian Society of Bassists (ABC).
