Bio: | Rodrigo Mata (Mexico, 1985-) Bassist and composer from Guanajuato, Mexico, graduated from the University of Guanajuato. He studied in 2010 with Sheila Garrett and John Hyde at Mount Royal University in Canada and in 2021 he finished a master's degree in Musical Performance at the Norwegian Academy of Music. with Dan Styffe and Håkon Thelin. He has been a member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra, the León Chamber Orchestra, the Norwegian Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta, and the Bergen Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. He is currently part of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato, as well as various chamber music and jazz projects. As a composer, he has won grand prizes in the 2020 ISB (International Society of Bassist) Composition Contest and the 2021 FICI (International Children's Double Bass Festival) Composition Contest and he was resident composer of the Latin Orchestra of Europe in 2021, his works have premiered in Norway, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Chile, Argentina, Portugal, Germany, Venezuela, Peru, and the United States.
