John Schimek is Professor of Double Bass and Music Education
for the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.

A nationally recognized educator, Schimek has presented
clinics in 40 states, China, Brazil, and Poland. A regular presenter at the International
Society of Bassists conventions, he has also presented at several of the ASTA
conventions. As a performer, he has appeared with several professional
orchestras and has recorded for television and movie productions. He is in
demand for his work with children and frequently performs at schools, children’s
centers and hospitals.  As an
adjudicator, he is regularly invited to judge orchestra and solo competitions
throughout the U.S. and abroad.

His published material may be found in Bass World, American String
Teacher Journal
, Teaching Music,
state music journals, and he is a contributing author for Teaching Music Through Orchestral Performance.

John Schimek is the recipient of several awards including the
OK-ASTA Teacher of the Year, the Oklahoma City University Music and Performing
Arts Outstanding Faculty Award, and has been recognized twice by the Oklahoma
Legislature.  He is the 2019 ISB
Convention Chair, at Indiana University, and in June 2019 he will begin his term
as president of the ISB.
