Kenny Jones grew up in southern Wisconsin playing bass in his high school orchestra, jazz band, musicals, and a local garage band, as well as dancing at the local studio. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison for a B.M. in String Bass Performance and Pedagogy, with an interest in integrating alternative teaching methods from other disciplines such as dance, athletics, occupational therapy, and Dalcroze Eurhythmics. He then went on for a M.M. in the same discipline at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, continuing his integrative pedagogical quest with their music therapy training center and the Dalcroze School of the Rockies, as well as playing out across the front range with jazz combos, high power rock bands, symphonies, and family band country bluegrass outfits. He plans on using his vast breadth of musical experiences to write a book to train and teach bassists (or all musicians) to connect their classical training and music theory knowledge and apply it to their playing and improvising using new novel techniques and approaches.
