BM with Distinction from the Canberra School of Music, Post-Graduate Diploma from Berlin Musikhochschule by courtesy, two-year DAAD Scholarship. Teachers include Klaus Stoll, Tom Martin, Max McBride.
Awards include a Howard Foundation Fellowship from Brown University, and ISB Recognition Award for Historical Performance.
Performed with Pittsburgh Symphony, London Philharmonic, English, Scottish and Australian Chamber Orchestras, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, Gothenburg Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Halle Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, and Sydney, Adelaide, Queensland and Melbourne Symphony and Australian World Orchestras
Recorded for Deutsche Grammaphon, Sony Classical , EMI, Naxos, Tall Poppies, RCA and ABC Classics.
Currently principal bass with Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Handel Haydn Society, Boston, Worked with the Boston Early Music Festival, Juilliard Baroque, Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, English Baroque Soloists, Smithsonian Chamber Players, Concerto Caledonia, Ironwood, Washington Bach Consort, Aulos Ensemble, Rebel, Florilegium, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
He has premiered more than forty compositions, including new concertos by Barry Conyngham (2009) and Doug Bailliet (2016). Performed recitals in Europe, Scandinavia, China, U.S. and Australia.
