Bassist Hector Tirado is recognized as today's most talented bass soloist in Puerto Rico. Especially notable are his accomplishments while overcoming a hearing condition. His mentor, legendary bassist Gary Karr, said that "his innate sense of musicality and great understanding of bowing techniques makes master Tirado one of the most important string players of the world of string music today".
Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Tirado studied at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and at Yale University where he earned degrees of Bachelor and Master in Music. Teachers and mentors include Gary Karr, Diana Gannett, Manuel Verdeguer and Orlando Cardenas. He has been a regular member of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and served as faculty member at the Inter American University, San German campus and the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. He also offers motivational conferences entitled "Proprioseptivity- How to perceive sound through the skin". Mr.Tirado offered lecture- demostrations and master classes on Proprioseptivity in Bogota, Colombia; at the Barcelona Bass Meeting 2013 in Spain; and the ISB Convention 2013 in Rochester,NY. He participates in recitals and has been invited to play in private and public presentations and for the media in US, Canada, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
