Bio:

Marcos Machado is a renowned Brazilian-American double bassist, celebrated for his virtuosic performances and inspiring stage presence. The Strad has praised his “incredibly fluid” left-hand technique, while Fanfare commended his “musicianship and technical prowess.” Dr. Machado is a Professor of Music at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and has organized fourteen editions of the “Southern Miss Bass Symposium.” He founded the Pampa International Music Festival (FIMP) in Brazil and Bass by the Sea, a national double bass competition.

Machado’s career includes active performing and teaching schedules, tours throughout the USA, Europe, and South America, and three Grammy® nominations. His versatility has inspired many composers to write works for him, and he has premiered several pieces. Machado authored “Tao of Bass,” a multi-volume technique book. He also created the “Integral Technique” online course, published by “Discover Double Bass.” In January 2024, he introduced “Keen Bass: The Mindful Bassist's Journey,” a weekly booklet series. Machado’s discography includes two CDs with the Duo Machado-Fialkow and collaborations with various ensembles. He performs on a David Tecchler double bass, c. 1700, and a custom-built double bass by Andrea Spada.
