Chris West, professor of double bass at Trinity Laban in Conservatoire in London, has written The Paganini of the Double Bass: Bottesini in Britain, a definitive biography of Giovanni Bottesini, one of the most extraordinary musicians the world has even known. Chris has sourced almost 10,000 references from 19th century newspapers and Bottesini's own letters to tell the story of the virtuoso performer and prolific composer for the bicentennial year of Bottesini's birth, December 24, 2021 – December 23, 2022.
Pegasus for Double Bass Quartet received a virtual world premiere during the 2021 ISB Virtual Convention. It was commissioned on behalf of and dedicated to all the volunteers who have made every ISB Convention possible. Award-winning composer Andrés Martin writes "Through this happy, heroic milonga the spirt of this vast team has been captured perfectly. May this piece bring a smile of hope and gratitude to all." Proceeds from the sale of this limited edition have been donated by Andres to benefit the International Society of Bassists.
