President's Corner — Volume 48 #1

This past June, the International Society of Bassists gathered at Florida State University for what was truly history in the making.

As I reflect on our 2025 ISB Convention, I'm filled with a profound sense of awe and gratitude. Thousands of unforgettable moments played out across stages, studios, and hallways. It was a gathering that celebrated our instrument in all its glorious diversity. Curiosity and inclusivity were the hallmarks of this convention, and it was moving to see our community embrace both so fully.

This event didn't just happen overnight. It took the better part of two years to bring it to life — a massive undertaking made possible by the absolute dedication of our staff, board members, volunteers, FSU personnel, Young Bassists/NextGen team. Their passion and persistence made this gathering not only possible, but deeply meaningful. I can't thank them enough for their countless hours of behind-the-scenes work, and for creating an environment where all could flourish.

It was a joy to see that the spirit of this community is alive and well — and more vibrant than ever. To see old friends reconnect. To witness bassists sharing knowledge, performances, laughter, and conversations. And, in the whirlwind of chairing a convention, to have the opportunity to be still for a moment and be reminded of the profound power of music. What we do matters.

What I saw throughout the week was the embodiment of a belief I hold deeply: all ships rise in the high tide. When one person shares their artistry or insight with generosity, the entire community is elevated. We are stronger not just because of individual excellence, but because of our shared commitment to lifting one another up.

If you were able to join us in person, I hope the experience continues to resonate with you. If you couldn't be there this time, I hope you'll feel the energy and momentum through the pages of this journal — you're a vital part of our story too.

We made history together. The future is bright, and I can't wait to see where we go from here!
