2024 — Maxine Gimbel

Maxine Gimbel of Oak Park, Illinois has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the ISB Jane Little Scholarship.

Maxine studies with Ian Hallas of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She began playing the bass at age 12 with Mohannad Al Zahabi, and is the current principal bass of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. She won an honorable mention at the Walgreens National Concerto Competition in 2022. Maxine served as principal bass in the Illinois Music Education Association's 2023 Honors Orchestra. She attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute in 2023, and is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA (NYO) for its upcoming international tour in 2024. Maxine will be entering The Juilliard School this fall to study with Hal Robinson.

The panel was again very impressed and moved by the quality of the applicants, both musically and in terms of character as evidenced by their statements and references.

The $10,000 scholarship, given annually to a female double bass major entering college as a freshman, was established in 2022 with the generous support of an anonymous donor. The scholarship is given in honor and memory of Jane Little, former member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and celebrated as one of the longest serving professional orchestra musicians in the world.

2023 — Maggie Carter

Maggie Carter - ISB Jane Little Scholarship Recipient

Maggie Carter of Portland, Oregon has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the annual ISB Jane Little Scholarship. Maggie is a student of Jordan Anderson and Braizahn Jones, and previously studied with Nina DeCesare. She is principal bass of the Portland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and won first prize in the junior divisions of the 2020 Oregon Mozart Players Young Soloist Competition and the 2021 Oregon ASTA Solo Competition. She won the 2022 Portland Youth Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and was a recent soloist with the Oregon Symphony, performing movements of Frank Proto's A Carmen Fantasy in six community concerts. Maggie has attended the Tanglewood Institute and Interlochen Arts Camp, and is a Young Artist in Residence of All Classical Portland. She has been accepted to study at the Curtis Institute of Music. 2022 — Jamie Park

Jamie Park - ISB Jane Little Scholarship Recipient

Jamie Park of Cleveland, Ohio has been selected as the first recipient of the annual ISB Jane Little Scholarship. Jamie is a student of Tracy Rowell at the Cleveland Institute of Music's college preparatory program. She is a 2022 member of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, a finalist in the 2021 National YoungArts Foundation Competition, 2020 winner of the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Concerto Competition and the Suburban Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Concerto Competition, and principal bass of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra from 2017-2020, among her many honors and achievements. Jamie is headed to Northwestern University this fall to study with Andrew Raciti.
